Anyone know about inherited autosomal recessive genetic traits?

My nephew, who is 20, has Rothmund-Thomson Syndrome, a rare inherited disease. Because both of his parents (my sister and Sean's dad) both carried the recessive gene, Sean (my nephew) is certain that his parents were related somewhere down the family tree. I say NO WAY! Anyone with some facts I can give this kid

I can also highly recommend this book if you are interested in the male version of mtDNA, which is the study of the Y-chromosome. I met Spencer Wells and he put the whole idea of the research across quite succinctly as well.

Oxford Ancestors

Hi everyone!
I wanted to start by finding out if anybody's had their mitochondrial DNA analysis done. I haven't, but the two people I know who HAVE paid for it and sent in their epithelial cells both turned out to be descendants of "Helena". Anybody else had an experience with Oxford Ancestors?
